Housing

Students who will be enrolled in programs held at the University of Pittsburgh are responsible for organizing their own housing.  Students typically select:

  • University of Pittsburgh dormitory
  • Summer sublet in Pittsburgh
  • Commute from home (if you live nearby)

University of Pittsburgh On-Campus Housing

  • Option 1: Panther Hall

SLI has reserved a block of rooms at the Panther Hall dormitory for the summer of 2023. Placement in an apartment will be on a first-come first-served basis while space lasts. Panther Hall offers on-campus, suite-style housing with double occupancy bedrooms at the cost of $36 per night. You will be housed in a suite with other SLI participants. Residency at Panther Hall does not include a meal plan. A description of Panther Hall may be found online here: https://www.pc.pitt.edu/housing-services/university-owned-housing/panthe...

And a student-made room tour video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhIk9HOmBwk

Students interested in living at Panther Hall should follow these steps:

    a) Write to SLI at sliadmin@pitt.edu to inquiry about Panther Hall availability and request the electronic sign-up and payment form.

    b) If space is available, SLI will respond confirming your pending (tentative) reservation in our block and share the link to the electronic reservation and payment form.

    c) Complete the electronic reservation and payment form at your earliest convenient and no later than May 16th. Reservations will only be finalized upon full payment. No refunds will be issued after the reservation is finalized.

SLI will submit all the reservations for Panther Hall housing to Pitt’s conference services department just after the May 16 deadline. Panther Hall confirmed residents will receive further information about check-in procedures from Conference Services.

  • Option 2: Tower C

The university housing department will be offering summer housing to enrolled students at Litchfield Tower C for the summer of 2023. Tower C offers single occupancy dormitory rooms on campus and will cost $40.20 per night. Please note that you must first be enrolled in order to sign up for housing at Tower C. Residents at Tower C must be attentive to follow Panther Central and the housing department’s policies and protocols in relation to safety, COVID-mitigation, etc. Importantly, residency at Tower C requires the purchase of a meal plan, at an additional cost of around $224 per week. Billing and payment for housing at Tower C is handled electronically through your student account (PittPay) without SLI's involvement. A description and photos of Tower C is found online here: https://www.pc.pitt.edu/housing-services/university-owned-housing/litchf...

Students interested in living in Tower C should follow these steps:

    a) Email sliadmin@pitt.edu that you would like to live in Tower C. SLI will request the Pitt Housing Department to add your account to their housing system. SLI will contact you when we have confirmation that you were added to the housing system.

    b) Log into https://my.pitt.edu/ (with your Pitt username and password)

    c) Search for Housing and Dining

    d) Select Housing and Dining Information

    e) Next to Summer Housing Application, click Apply Here!

    f) Important notes: Because SLI uses custom term dates, you will not immediately have the option to select a term that aligns with SLI’s 6- or 8-week term. The housing department has advised that you should simply choose whichever option comes closest to your SLI term and then enter your required check-in and check-out dates on a subsequent page on the application. The housing department will still be able to accommodate our term dates, even though SLI’s term dates are not in the menu of options. The housing department requires a minimum stay of 4 weeks at Tower C.

If you have technical difficulties with your Tower C application or questions about policies, pricing, meal plans, or other aspects of your application and residency at Tower C, please contact Panther Central at 412-648-1100. When you call them, have your Peoplesoft number on hand and let them know that you are enrolled in class (i.e. not just coming for a conference or camp). Panther Central is the central hub for both campus housing and other essential campus logistics, such as your student ID cards, and they are open 24/7.

Locating a summer rental in Pittsburgh
Summer subletting is historically the most popular option among SLI students as it is often more affordable than the dormitory (though prices have risen in the last year). Neighborhoods close to the University include North Oakland, South Oakland, Bloomfield, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, and Friendship. Highland Park, Morningside, Regent Square, and Lawrenceville are also good options, but slightly further away.   Remember: city buses are free with your Pitt Student ID!

Commuting

Commuting from home is a great option for those who live nearby.  Please remember: classes begin at 9am and run until 3pm.  You will need substantial time in the late afternoon to do homework and study, so please try to avoid spending hours commuting!

Parking

Students living in dorms or commuting to campus can get a parking pass at an affordable rate (in the past, for as little as $25/week for a minimum of 5 weeks). Visit University of Pittsburgh Parking Office at 127 North Bellefield Ave. to obtain a parking pass. Call the parking office to request a summer parking pass application at 412-624-4034.
